Rathuadhab, Uttarakhand:

The Kalagarh Tiger Reserve is located in the northern part of Corbett Tiger Reserve. This landscape includes Rathuadhab and Dhotiyal villages, and represents a great opportunity for developing Community-based Ecotourism (CBET). The area has good quality forest, amazing biodiversity, and specifically, great faunal diversity. Biodiversity assessments in the area have resulted in 370 bird species, 110 butterfly species and more than 200 moth species.
The area is yet unexplored, and relatively unspoiled Introducing community-based ecotourism, with nature-linked tourism as the primary offering, represents an opportunity to provide alternate livelihood to local communities in terms of nature guiding, homestays and nature tours, as well as well as an incentive to the local community to conserve their own natural resources. Chakhuli is a local youth group that is promoting responsible tourism in the Rathuwadhab landscape, as well as working on nature education programs with local school children. Chakhuli hosts the Kalagarh Nature Festival in December, annually.
